Costa Rican authorities are seeking the public’s help to identify a woman suspected in the death of a 74-year-old American citizen. The man was found dead on Sept. 27 inside a condominium in Playas del Coco, a popular beach town on Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast. Investigators said he had head injuries likely caused by blunt objects. Surveillance footage shows a woman leaving the condominium and later walking along a street with another woman.

Authorities have released a description of the unidentified woman and are asking anyone with relevant information to contact investigators. The case remains under investigation, and officials have not announced an arrest or identified a motive.

Death reported at Playas del Coco condominium

The victim, identified by authorities as a 74-year-old American citizen referred to as “Fleming,” entered a condominium in Playas del Coco at about 4:50 p.m. on Sept. 27. The seaside community is located in Guanacaste province along Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast and is known as a tourist destination.

Officials later found the man’s body inside the condominium. Investigators said he had injuries to his head that were likely inflicted with blunt objects. The authorities have classified the death as a suspected homicide while continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Surveillance footage points to unidentified woman

Security footage released by Costa Rican investigators appears to show a woman entering or being present at the condominium and leaving without the American man. Additional footage shows her walking down a street with another woman around the time of the alleged homicide.

The footage is being used to seek help from residents, visitors and others who may recognize the woman or know where she was after leaving the property. Authorities have not publicly identified the second woman shown in the video.

Authorities release physical description

Investigators described the woman sought in connection with the case as having a fair complexion, a slender build and black hair. She is approximately 1.60 meters tall.

At the time, she was reportedly wearing blue denim shorts, sandals and a white bra with chain-like accessories. The description and clothing details are intended to help the public assess whether they may have seen her in Playas del Coco or elsewhere in the area.

Investigation focuses on public assistance

Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency, the country’s principal investigative police agency, is asking anyone with information about the death or the unidentified woman to come forward. Officials have provided the telephone number 800-800-0645 for tips.

The investigation has not established a publicly announced motive, and authorities have not reported an arrest. Important questions remain about the events inside the condominium, the identity of the woman seen in the footage, and the role, if any, of the second woman.

The case involves an American citizen who was found dead in a heavily visited coastal community. Further information is expected to depend on witness accounts, surveillance review and forensic work examining the injuries and the condominium.
