A person wearing a mask resembling Joe Biden appeared outside a Watauga, Texas, home on Oct. 18, 2026, according to doorbell camera footage. The visitor touched the camera twice and appeared to eat a banana through the mask before leaving. Police found no evidence of a crime after reviewing the video and searching the surrounding neighborhood. Authorities nevertheless warned that pranks or conduct perceived as threatening can lead to dangerous confrontations.

Doorbell footage captures unusual doorstep visit

The incident occurred outside a residence in Watauga, a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, at about 8:05 p.m. on Oct. 18. Video from the home’s doorbell camera showed an unidentified, apparently barefoot person wearing a mask resembling Joe Biden and a shirt displaying the word “FREEDOM.”

The visitor moved close to the camera and ran fingers over it twice. The person then held a peeled banana and appeared to eat it through the mask before walking away. The footage provided police with the main record of the encounter, while the homeowner reported the behavior as suspicious.

Police investigate a suspicious activity report

Watauga police responded after the homeowner contacted authorities about the masked individual. Officers reviewed the doorbell video at the scene and assessed the available circumstances surrounding the visit.

The department also searched the surrounding neighborhood for the person. That search did not locate the visitor, and investigators did not report finding additional evidence that would establish a criminal offense or explain why the person approached the home.

No crime or related incidents identified

After reviewing the footage and conducting the neighborhood search, police said they found no evidence that a crime had occurred. No arrest or criminal charge was reported in connection with the doorstep appearance.

Police said they were aware of social media posts describing similar sightings, but no additional reports involving the person had been made directly to the department. Authorities also said they had not identified related incidents. Their assessment remained unchanged based on the information available.

“Based on the available information, our assessment remains unchanged: officers found no evidence that a criminal offense occurred.”

Authorities warn about prank-related confrontations

Although the episode did not lead to charges, police warned that conduct intended as a joke can create fear or uncertainty for residents. An unexpected person in a political mask standing at a private home may be perceived as threatening, particularly when the individual’s identity and intentions are unknown.

The department said behavior perceived as threatening can lead to dangerous confrontations and potentially serious injury. The warning applies even when the person involved intends to make others laugh rather than cause harm.

“We also encourage everyone to exercise good judgment and recognize that behavior intended as a joke or prank can sometimes cause unnecessary concern for others.”

Visitor’s identity and motive remain unknown

Police have not identified the masked visitor or determined the reason for the costume, the banana, or the approach to the camera. The available video shows the person’s actions but does not establish a motive or indicate whether the appearance was connected to any broader activity.

Authorities urged residents who observe concerning behavior to contact police rather than confront individuals themselves. That guidance is intended to allow officers to evaluate the circumstances while reducing the risk of an unsafe encounter between residents and strangers.

Summary

A strange masked appearance outside a Texas home prompted a suspicious activity response but did not result in criminal findings. Police reviewed the video, searched the area, and found no evidence of an offense. The department used the incident to remind residents and visitors that behavior meant as a prank can still cause alarm and create safety risks.
