A Florida man accused of slashing a 70-year-old shopper at a Punta Gorda Publix had completed probation in a prior assault case about three months earlier. Police say Ramsey Thomas Lyons, 47, admitted planning to kill someone inside the store and targeting the victim because he appeared to be from the 1960s. Police said Lyons waived his Miranda rights and told investigators that he had spent two days planning the attack. He allegedly said he wanted to kill someone in the store and selected Terry because the shopper looked as though he was from the 1960s.

“I just pulled it out of my pocket and stuck it in his neck,” Lyons said, according to the affidavit.

Lyons reportedly said he strongly disliked the 1960s era and wanted to “ace” the victim. Investigators said he intentionally dropped the weapon so officers would not use a Taser or shoot him. These statements are allegations, and Lyons is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
