Charlotte Man Charged After Alleged Sidewalk Assault Was Posted on Social Media

News EditorBy News EditorAugust 8, 2026 U.S. News 5 Mins Read

A 32-year-old Charlotte man was arrested after police identified him as the suspect in a July 30 sidewalk assault that was allegedly recorded and posted on social media. Investigators said the incident occurred on East Boulevard in the city’s Providence Division, where a woman was reportedly punched before the suspect fled. The victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while arrest records show the suspect had been arrested at least nine times since 2023.

Police said detectives were already reviewing videos connected to a social media account when officers responding to an attempt-to-locate call were directed to the account. The suspect, Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, was taken to a medical facility after his arrest and is expected to be transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office for charging.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and have not established whether every video reviewed depicts a separate crime. The available arrest records describe allegations and prior charges, not final case outcomes or convictions.

Police identify suspect in East Boulevard assault

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Di-Quan Schafar Hunt on Thursday after officers responding to an attempt-to-locate call were shown a social media account containing videos under investigation. Detectives determined that one video appeared to depict an assault reported July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard, within the department’s Providence Division.

Police allege that Hunt punched a woman on a sidewalk and then left the area. After receiving medical treatment at a local facility, he is expected to be transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said he will face a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Social media videos draw investigators’ attention

Investigators reviewed videos posted to an account that police said was connected to the suspect. One clip appeared to show a woman being chased until she took cover behind a vehicle. A comment associated with the account read:

“Ahhhh feels GOOD!!!”

Another video appeared to show the person filming confronting a woman. The camera then jolted, and the sound of an apparent punch could be heard. The woman was later shown on the ground while the person behind the camera continued taunting her and appeared to strike her again. Police have not said whether that clip was the video tied to the July 30 report.

Victim hospitalized with serious injuries

The woman involved in the East Boulevard incident was taken to a local hospital. Police described her injuries as serious but non-life-threatening. Authorities have not publicly identified her, and it was not immediately clear whether the women shown in the reviewed clips had been identified.

The department also has not said whether detectives are investigating the other videos as potential criminal incidents. That question remains part of the active investigation, along with determining which footage corresponds to the reported assault and whether additional victims may be involved.

Records show multiple prior arrests and charges

Mecklenburg County records show that Hunt was arrested at least nine times between October 2023 and December 2025. His most recent listed arrest, in December 2025, included allegations of assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats, second-degree trespass and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. The booking entry does not describe the underlying allegations or identify a victim.

Records also list a September 2025 simple-assault charge and a March 2025 charge of assault on a female. During 2024, Hunt was arrested in cases involving alleged violations of a domestic-violence protective order, breaking or entering and injury to personal property. The records identify him as a felon and list at least six additional misdemeanor convictions in Mecklenburg County, along with a felony charge of malicious conduct by a prisoner and a charge of resisting a public officer.

Available booking records do not provide the outcomes of the listed cases. An arrest or charge is an allegation and does not establish guilt.

Police seek information as investigation continues

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the investigation into the July 30 assault and other potentially related footage remains active. Anyone with information about incidents connected to the social media account or its videos was asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Investigators are expected to determine whether additional videos show separate offenses, identify any other people involved and establish the full circumstances surrounding the East Boulevard encounter. Hunt’s case will proceed through the Mecklenburg County criminal justice system after his transfer from medical care.
