The Nevada jury reached its decision after about three hours of deliberation following nine days of testimony. Verdict and charge

The Clark County jury convicted Davis of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. The charge arose from the shooting of Tupac Shakur on the Las Vegas Strip on Sept. 7, 1996. Davis could face life in prison, with the final punishment to be addressed at the scheduled sentencing hearing.

Prosecution theory

Prosecutor Binu Palal argued that Davis obtained a gun and pursued Tupac Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight after an earlier confrontation involving Davis’ nephew. Palal told jurors that Davis consistently placed himself inside the white Cadillac used in the shooting.

“Went hunting” for Shakur and Knight.

The prosecution presented its case through 24 witnesses over nine days of testimony, seeking to connect Davis to the vehicle and the attack.

Defense response

Defense attorney Michael Sanft maintained that the evidence did not independently place Davis in Las Vegas or inside the Cadillac. The defense presented three witnesses and challenged the prosecution’s reliance on statements attributed to Davis. Davis’ son covered his face with one hand after the verdict was read.

1996 shooting

A gunman in a white Cadillac opened fire on a BMW carrying Tupac Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight on the Las Vegas Strip. Knight survived with minor injuries, while Shakur died six days later at age 25. The killing remained unresolved for almost three decades before Davis became the defendant in the case.

Sentencing and significance

Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, Shakur’s sister, cried when the verdict was announced. Davis was ordered held without bail until sentencing on Oct. 13. His conviction marks the first in the long-running investigation into the killing of the influential rapper.
