The FBI added Henderson to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on Aug. 11, identifying him as armed and dangerous and offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to his arrest. Federal prosecutors accuse Henderson of conspiracy to possess controlled substances with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, conspiracy to launder monetary instruments and conspiracy to engage in an animal fighting venture. The FBI alleges that drugs supplied through a network tied to the Sinaloa Cartel were distributed in Indianapolis and throughout the surrounding Midwest.

The substances identified in the case include fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine. Investigators also describe Henderson as the alleged leader of a violent, neighborhood-based gang. FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Tim O’Malley said Henderson had a history that allegedly included street violence, intimidation, assault, weapons offenses, drug trafficking and animal cruelty.

Large federal takedown uncovered weapons and animal fighting

Henderson and 20 other people were federally indicted in the Southern District of Indiana in August 2023. More than 300 federal, state and local officers took part in a subsequent operation. Authorities arrested 18 people during the takedown, while Henderson remained at large.

According to the FBI, agents seized 61 firearms, quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, $98,000 in cash and 166 dogs allegedly used for fighting. Investigators also uncovered what they characterized as a significant dogfighting and illegal gambling operation. The charges remain allegations, and the defendants are entitled to due process.

The FBI led the investigation, with assistance from the Justice Department, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Inspector General and other federal, state and local partners. FBI Director Kash Patel credited the Indianapolis field team and partner agencies with maintaining the pursuit after Henderson allegedly evaded the 2023 operation.

“Gregory Henderson Jr. had been on the run for a year, wanted for his alleged involvement in major drug trafficking operation and animal fighting conspiracies,” Kash Patel said.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins said the investigation addressed alleged crimes involving both people and animals. She said the department would continue working with law enforcement partners to pursue cases involving violent crime and animal cruelty.

Capture adds to recent increase in Ten Most Wanted arrests

The FBI said Henderson’s arrest was the ninth capture of a Ten Most Wanted fugitive since President Donald Trump returned to office. Those nine fugitives had collectively spent more than 50 years evading authorities, according to the bureau. The agency said the total was more than twice the four Ten Most Wanted fugitives captured during the previous administration.
