Charlie Kirk Statue Vandalized With Red Paint at Phoenix Memorial

News EditorBy News EditorSeptember 13, 2026 U.S. News 5 Mins Read

A newly installed bronze statue honoring Charlie Kirk was vandalized with red paint outside Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Phoenix early Sunday. The attack occurred three days after the memorial was unveiled to mark the one-year anniversary of Kirk’s assassination. A nearby Christian tribute was also defaced, including markings over the name of Jesus Christ and a cross. Phoenix police said the incident is under investigation, with no arrests or suspect descriptions announced by Sunday afternoon.

The vandalism targeted an eight-foot sculpture and a sign outside the organization’s headquarters near East Beverly Road. Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, pledged to restore the memorial and said the damage would not erase her husband’s legacy or silence Christians.

Turning Point USA said it was reviewing video and cooperating with law enforcement. The organization also urged supporters to remain active ahead of the midterm elections while condemning the attack as deliberate and politically motivated.

Vandalism reported at Phoenix memorial

Phoenix police began receiving calls at about 8:09 a.m. Sunday regarding vandalism at a memorial near 4900 East Beverly Road. Officers responded to the location and opened an investigation into the damage. The site was outside Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters, where the statue had been installed only days earlier.

The incident happened shortly after the organization unveiled the memorial on Thursday. The timing placed the vandalism within days of the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk‘s death during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025.

Damage to statue and Christian sign

Images from the headquarters showed bright red paint streaked across the statue’s face and neck. A crude frowning face was also drawn across the sculpture’s chest. The bronze figure depicts Kirk in his recognizable “Freedom” T-shirt and cross necklace, with details that reportedly include his wedding ring.

A sign at the base of the statue featuring Kirk’s image and the words “Jesus defeated death so you can live” was separately damaged. The name “Jesus” and an image of a cross appeared to have been crossed out, while the word “Satan” was apparently written across the display. Authorities had not publicly identified a motive or suspects by Sunday afternoon.

Response from family and organization

Erika Kirk, who became Turning Point USA’s chief executive after her husband’s death, said the vandalism would not remove his influence. She vowed to rebuild and restore the statue, replace the damaged reference to Jesus Christ, and continue the movement her husband helped create.

“Charlie once said we should be building two statues for every statue that they tear down,” Erika Kirk wrote.

Turning Point USA Chief Operating Officer Tyler Bowyer condemned the incident and said the damage represented a broader political and cultural hostility. Chief of Staff Mikey McCoy urged supporters to respond through faith rather than anger, while the organization said it would repair the memorial and replace the signs.

Police investigation and restoration plans

Police had not announced any arrests or released descriptions of possible suspects. Turning Point USA said it was reviewing security footage and working with investigators to identify those responsible. Tyler Bowyer said crews were prepared to clean the memorial once authorities released the scene.

The organization also asked anyone with information to contact Phoenix police or Silent Witness. Its public response described the attack as intentional and encouraged supporters to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, linking the incident to its wider political organizing efforts.

Context of memorial and homicide case

Turning Point USA commissioned Utah artist Quintin McCann to create the sculpture after he began working on a portrait of Kirk on the evening the conservative activist was killed. The statue was initially positioned outside the headquarters near 48th Street and Beverly Road, but it was expected to be moved indoors for security reasons by the end of the week.

Charlie Kirk was 31 when he was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University during his American Comeback Tour. Tyler Robinson, 23, has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges in the case. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Since Kirk’s death, Erika Kirk has led the organization, which has continued expanding its high school and college chapter network.
