Ten years after Angie Barlow disappeared in Indianapolis, her mother, Christina Kramer, is still seeking answers about her daughter’s unsolved killing. Barlow, 23, vanished after attending a private dancing event on Oct. 26, 2016, and her remains were found about eight months later. Barlow disappears after private event

Angie Barlow disappeared in Indianapolis on Oct. 26, 2016, after sending her roommate the address of a private dancing job at the Landmark Apartment and Townhomes. In a text sent that night, she joked about the possibility of going missing: About to work this private party in case I go missing LOL. The message became an especially painful detail for her family after she failed to return.

Barlow was 23 and had been working at Club Rio in Indianapolis. Her mother said Barlow accepted the event because she needed money and knew some of the people connected to it. Her remains were discovered approximately eight months later in the backyard of a residence near Harcourt in Indianapolis. Kramer said her daughter had been fatally shot.

Vehicle evidence raises unanswered questions

Kramer said surveillance video from the apartment complex showed two vehicles leaving at about 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2016. One was Barlow’s blue Pontiac G6. A black sedan followed closely behind and was believed by Kramer to belong to a female acquaintance who had attended the private gathering with her boyfriend.

The footage did not reveal the drivers or occupants because the vehicles had tinted windows. After days passed without clear answers, Kramer contacted the dealership where Barlow had purchased the Pontiac. A GPS tracker helped locate the car approximately eight miles from the apartment complex. Kramer said the vehicle was unusually dirty and appeared to have been driven under a fence, leaving her convinced it had been taken on an unexplained journey.

Mother describes alleged disturbing conversation

Kramer said she received a phone call in January 2017 from the female acquaintance who had been at the private event. According to Kramer, she asked what had been discussed at the gathering. She recalled the woman responding, Oh, you want to know what her last words were.

Kramer interpreted the remark as a taunt and said it has remained with her throughout the investigation. The woman denied making the call and denied having the conversation described by Kramer. No conclusion about the exchange has been established publicly, and no charges have resulted from it.

Investigation remains open without charges

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the homicide investigation remains open, with Detective Jose Torres serving as the lead investigator. Authorities have not filed criminal charges in Barlow’s death. Police have urged anyone with relevant information to contact the homicide office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS, where callers may remain anonymous.

Kramer said a special prosecutor previously assigned to the case later left the office. She estimated that roughly two years had passed since she last received communication from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. She also said repeated efforts to contact Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Mears went unanswered. The prosecutor’s office did not provide a response to multiple requests for comment.

Family keeps Barlow’s memory alive

Christina Kramer said her daughter was a gifted athlete who played softball as a catcher and also competed in basketball, shot put, volleyball and bowling. Barlow was the oldest of four sisters and remained close to her family after leaving their home in Muncie.

Her death continues to affect the family, including Barlow’s youngest sister, who was four years old when she disappeared. Kramer said the child turned to violent video games as a way to learn how to escape dangerous people. Kramer has vowed to continue speaking publicly because she believes her daughter can no longer speak for herself.

“My daughter was the victim. She can’t speak for herself. I’m her survivor. I’m her voice, and I speak for her.”
