Louisiana Man Sought After Four Stabbings and Child Attack

News EditorBy News EditorSeptember 13, 2026 U.S. News 5 Mins Read

Authorities in Houma, Louisiana, are searching for 47-year-old Kaegan Jude Solet after four people were found stabbed to death and a child was critically wounded. Investigators identified Solet as a person of interest in the apparent series of attacks near Ashland Drive. He has not been arrested or charged in connection with the latest deaths.

The wounded child was flown to an out-of-area hospital and remained in critical but stable condition. Deputies have not released the identities of the four people who died or explained whether the victims were connected to one another, the child or Solet.

The search comes after Solet was previously arrested in connection with a 2019 motel stabbing and had also been sought on a separate murder warrant. Authorities said the latest investigation remains active and preliminary.

Search intensifies in Houma

Terrebonne Parish deputies were initially called to the 200 block of Ashland Drive after reports involving a wounded child. During the response, investigators searched nearby homes and identified Kaegan Jude Solet, a Houma resident, as a person of interest in the apparent series of stabbing incidents.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet said authorities believe Solet may still be in the area, although investigators are not ruling out other possibilities. Officials said they had not found evidence that he intended to leave Louisiana or go on the run, but they were examining all options.

“We’re using every investigative tool that we have. Our hope is that we plan to get him in custody very quickly,” Lt. Blake Tabor said.

Child found critically wounded

The child was discovered by deputies near Ashland Drive and transported by air to a hospital outside the area. The child’s condition was described as critical but stable after what investigators called extremely significant injuries.

Authorities have not disclosed the child’s age, identity or relationship to the other victims. They also have not said where the child was attacked or provided details about the circumstances that led deputies to the scene. The investigation is continuing as detectives gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.

Four deaths under investigation

As deputies examined the surrounding area, they found four people dead inside nearby homes. The deaths were being investigated as part of the same apparent series of stabbing incidents, although officials had not confirmed the precise sequence of events.

The victims’ identities had not been released, and authorities had not established what relationship, if any, existed among the victims, the injured child and Solet. Investigators also had not said whether the attacks occurred in one home or multiple residences, or what may have motivated the violence.

Solet had not been arrested or charged in connection with the four deaths at the latest update. The sheriff’s office emphasized that identifying him as a person of interest does not mean he has been accused of a crime.

Earlier violent-crime allegations

The current search follows earlier allegations involving Solet in Terrebonne Parish. In December 2019, Houma police arrested him after a 59-year-old woman was found with numerous stab wounds inside a room at the Red Carpet Inn. Police alleged that Solet had been invited into the room, argued with the woman, stabbed her repeatedly in the head and upper body, and locked the door before leaving.

Officers located him about 18 hours later and booked him on one count of attempted second-degree murder. The woman was taken to a medical facility with life-threatening injuries, according to police at the time.

A separate sheriff’s office release said detectives obtained a warrant in January 2019 for Solet’s arrest on a second-degree murder charge in the killing of Kemple Paul Scott Lovell. The final dispositions of those cases were not immediately available.

Authorities seek information

Investigators are continuing to develop evidence and determine how the latest incidents unfolded. Officials are also facing questions about why Solet was no longer in custody after the earlier cases and whether he remained under court-ordered supervision.

“Why is he out? We’re probably just as stunned as everyone else is,” Blake Tabor said.

Anyone with information about Solet’s whereabouts is urged to contact Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives at 985-876-2500. Authorities said additional information would be released as the investigation develops.
