A California man was arrested Sunday at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes after authorities said he photographed the property and appeared to monitor security planning ahead of President Donald Trump’s scheduled visit. Deputies allegedly found hollow-point ammunition on him and loaded firearms in his vehicle. A subsequent search of his Downey home uncovered additional weapons, body armor, ammunition and notebooks containing what investigators called concerning statements. The investigation remains active, and authorities said they have identified no credible threat to the surrounding community.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to four criminal charges related to the arrest. A judge set bail at $250,000 and imposed restrictions that bar him from possessing weapons, entering the golf club or leaving California while the case is pending.

Arrest follows security monitoring at golf club

The case began Sunday at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, where plainclothes federal agents reportedly saw Taele walking the grounds, taking photographs and recording video. Authorities said he appeared to be monitoring activities connected to security planning for Trump’s scheduled visit. Deputies from the Lomita Sheriff’s Station responded at about 3:30 p.m. and contacted him on the property.

Trump arrived in Los Angeles late Tuesday for a Republican National Committee fundraiser. The golf club, located in Los Angeles County, had been part of the security focus because of the planned presidential visit. Taele was detained before that visit, and the investigation expanded after deputies searched his vehicle.

Deputies allege ammunition and firearms were found

During a pat-down, deputies allegedly recovered a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition from Taele’s pants pocket. Authorities then searched his vehicle, which was parked in the golf club’s lot, and allegedly found a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber.

Investigators also reported finding another loaded magazine containing hollow-point ammunition. Taele was initially arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition. The reported discoveries led detectives to seek a warrant for his Downey residence.

Home search reveals weapons and tactical equipment

Detectives assigned to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force obtained a search warrant for Taele’s home. An FBI aviation team helped investigators identify the residence as a point of interest during the operation.

Authorities said the search recovered an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a 1911 .45-caliber pistol, an AR-platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines and bulk quantities of pistol and rifle ammunition. Investigators also reported finding two radio signal devices and multiple notebooks containing statements they characterized as concerning. The allegations have not been resolved in court.

Charges, court restrictions and related robbery case

Prosecutors later charged Taele with receiving a large-capacity magazine, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and possessing a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. He also faces a second-degree robbery charge tied to an alleged Nov. 4, 2025, incident that was already being investigated by the El Segundo Police Department before the golf club arrest.

Taele pleaded not guilty Tuesday. A Los Angeles County judge set bail at $250,000 and ordered him not to possess weapons. The court also barred him from Trump National Golf Club and prohibited him from leaving California while the case proceeds. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 26 for a preliminary hearing setting and bail review.

Joint investigation continues ahead of presidential visit

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service are jointly investigating the arrest and the evidence recovered from the home and vehicle. Officials said additional charges could be filed as investigators review the evidence and examine the alleged robbery connection.

Authorities said they have identified no credible threat to the surrounding community. The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office confirmed that its task force continues to work with the Secret Service and county investigators but declined to provide further details while the case remains active.
