Family voices confidence in the investigation

The Haggerty family said it has “full and unwavering confidence” in the work of law enforcement. The statement came after Hanlon was discovered dead at the couple’s residence on Pottersville Road in Chester, Morris County, on June 6, 2026. The family’s support reflects its desire for investigators to determine who was responsible and how the killing occurred while the case remains unresolved.

“Brooke was a truly beautiful soul.”

What investigators have disclosed about the death

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the homicide investigation. Authorities have said Hanlon suffered multiple sharp-force injuries and was found inside the home she shared with her husband and young daughter. Officials have not publicly named a suspect, person of interest or motive. The investigation is therefore focused on gathering evidence and determining the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.

The emergency call and the husband’s account

James “Conor” Hanlon, who was married to Brooke Hanlon, called 911 after finding her unresponsive and bleeding on the second floor of the residence. During the frantic call, he asked the operator for CPR instructions and reported a laceration on his wife’s body. The released call documents the emergency response, but it does not establish who attacked Hanlon or explain the events that preceded her death.

Conor Hanlon has not been charged with a crime or accused of wrongdoing in connection with the case. Investigators have not announced an arrest.

Hanlon’s family, career and life in New Jersey

According to a family obituary, Brooke Hanlon is survived by her daughter, Avery; her sister, Paige Haggerty; her parents, Melissa Haggerty and Joseph Haggerty; and her husband, James “Conor” Hanlon. She met her future husband while living in Boston, and they married in June 2021. The couple moved to the Chester area in September 2023, bought a home there in September 2024 and welcomed Avery in July 2025.

Hanlon graduated from Villa Walsh Academy in 2009, received a psychology degree from Wake Forest University in 2013 and earned a master’s degree from Northeastern University in 2015. Her family said she loved her work as a therapist and was known for compassion toward clients, relatives and friends.

The case remains open without charges

More than two months after the killing, investigators have not disclosed a suspect or announced charges. A $1,000 reward has been offered for information, according to details released in connection with the case. Anyone with relevant information is being urged to contact authorities. The prosecutor’s office remains the lead agency as detectives work to establish a timeline, identify evidence and determine who caused Hanlon’s fatal injuries.
