Washington Jewelry Store Owner Opens Fire During Truck-Ramming Robbery Attempt

News EditorBy News EditorOctober 8, 2026 U.S. News 5 Mins Read

Masked suspects drove a pickup truck through the front of a jewelry store in Lynnwood, Washington, shortly after 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. The group rushed inside during the apparent robbery attempt, but fled empty-handed after the store owner opened fire. No injuries were reported at the scene, although investigators were working to determine whether any suspect was struck. Police said the group escaped in a black BMW SUV and a silver sedan.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows three vehicles circling the parking lot before a white Toyota Tacoma crashed through the storefront. Several masked people then entered through the opening, including one who appeared to be carrying an axe. The incident occurred in daylight and prompted a major police response because of the crash, gunfire and nearby pedestrians.

Truck crashes through the storefront

The attempted robbery took place at Medina Jewelers in Lynnwood shortly after 12:25 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators said a white Toyota Tacoma was used to break through the front of the business, shattering glass and creating an opening into the store. Surveillance footage showed three vehicles moving around the parking lot before the crash.

Employees ran as the truck entered the building, according to the account of the incident. The vehicle attack appeared to be intended to provide rapid access to the jewelry store and allow the suspects to enter without using the regular entrance.

Masked suspects enter during daylight

Several masked suspects moved into the store through the damaged storefront after the truck struck the building. One person appeared to be carrying an axe, while the group entered during a busy part of the day rather than under cover of darkness.

The presence of pedestrians and other witnesses heightened the alarm. Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Joe Dickenson described the circumstances as unusual for the area.

“It was broad daylight and a pretty rare occurrence for us,” Dickenson said.

Store owner responds with gunfire

A man identified as the store owner was seen pointing a gun at the suspects as they left. Authorities said he fired at the group, causing the would-be thieves to abandon the attempt and flee without taking jewelry or other merchandise.

No injuries were reported at the scene. However, police said they had not determined whether any suspect was hit by the gunfire, and detectives were still examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators were also working to establish whether any of the suspects had a firearm.

Police said the sound of gunshots following a vehicle crashing into a building created an immediate public safety concern.

“You had several witnesses that were out and about, several pedestrians walking around, all of a sudden a car crashing into a building and shots ringing out is cause for alarm,” Dickenson said.

Suspects flee in multiple vehicles

After leaving the store, the suspects reportedly escaped in a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan. Police said the BMW struck a parked vehicle while fleeing and may have sustained damage to its front passenger side.

The combination of surveillance footage, the damaged vehicles and witness accounts could help investigators identify the people involved. Authorities did not announce arrests or provide additional details about the suspects’ identities.

Police seek information from witnesses

Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the people or vehicles shown in surveillance footage to contact the Lynnwood Police Department. Tips should reference case number 2026-37986 and may be submitted through the department’s crime-tip channel.

Investigators are seeking information about the vehicles’ movements before and after the crash, the identities of the masked suspects and any injuries that may have occurred during the shooting or escape. Witnesses who were near the store at the time may also help clarify the sequence of events.
