Spencer Pratt, whose Pacific Palisades home was destroyed in the 2025 Palisades Fire, urged families to prepare evacuation plans as wildfires spread across the Spokane area. Three major fires had burned thousands of acres, forced about 5,000 homes to evacuate and destroyed more than 600 structures by August 2, 2026. More than 900 firefighters and support personnel were deployed, while emergency officials coordinated shelters, state resources and possible federal assistance. Pratt also called on residents to support displaced neighbors and draw on their faith during the recovery.

Pratt responds to Spokane devastation

Spencer Pratt addressed residents affected by the Spokane-area fires in a lengthy social media statement on Sunday. The former reality television personality and former Los Angeles mayoral candidate drew on his experience surviving the 2025 Palisades Fire, which destroyed his Pacific Palisades home.

“My deepest sympathies to the folks in Spokane who just lost everything in an instant. Nothing can really prepare you for this devastation.”

Pratt said the destruction should serve as a warning to communities beyond Washington. He also highlighted the emotional effect of losing pets and other personal belongings, noting that families can face losses extending far beyond the physical destruction of a home.

Wildfire evacuation planning takes priority

Pratt urged households to make evacuation plans before a fire threatens their neighborhood. He warned that fast-moving fires can arrive overnight, while residents are at work, away from home or unable to reach family members and pets.

“Have a plan. Don’t expect government to be there to save your home. Don’t expect the fire to wait until you’re at home and awake and ready.”

His warning focused on the limited time available during rapidly changing fire conditions. Emergency officials likewise continued directing residents to follow local evacuation orders and remain alert to official instructions rather than waiting for a fire to reach their property.

Three fires continue to burn near Spokane

The Autumn Lane Fire had burned 3,333 acres, the Old Trail Fire had scorched 3,481 acres and the Fairview Fire had grown to 914 acres, according to Incident Commander Benjamin Cossel of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The three fires were listed as 0% contained in the latest update, with the Autumn Lane Fire identified as the primary focus.

Approximately 5,000 homes had been evacuated, and incident command confirmed that more than 600 structures were destroyed. Officials cautioned that the damage count could increase as crews entered areas that remained difficult to access. More than 900 firefighters and support personnel were working across the fire complex.

Officials organize emergency and federal support

The Spokane County Board of Commissioners unanimously declared a state of emergency, allowing county officials to purchase emergency equipment and supplies more quickly. The American Red Cross Northwest Region said more than 400 people and their pets spent Saturday night at an emergency shelter in Spokane and announced a broad relief effort seeking donations and volunteers.

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said he spoke with President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin about the devastation and potential federal assistance. Rep. Michael Baumgartner said an official request for Federal Emergency Management Agency support would follow a request from the governor. Sen. Patty Murray said the federal government was tracking the disaster and urged people to listen carefully to local officials.

Messages of faith and community solidarity

Pratt encouraged residents to look after neighbors facing what he described as a long and painful recovery. He also closed his message with an appeal to faith.

“Above all else, if I can offer any advice right now… lean further into God. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Former Washington state representative Matt Shea shared an image of an American flag still standing after flames swept through a neighborhood, calling it a symbol of hope. Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson also posted a message of support. Fire officials warned boaters, kayakers and paddleboarders to stay clear of waterways used by aircraft collecting water for firefighting operations.
